Each year the Hudson Valley Foundation for Youth
Health funds and oversees a diverse, effective
group of programs that have a large effect on
the participant, their families, and the
community as a whole. These programs range in
scope from the small, intense program called Act
Smart, which provides 50 extremely at-risk teens
with the skills they need to avoid HIV
infection, to the large-scope Home Space program
which helps 2,000 children and parents get out
from under poverty and despair. The Foundation
helps support area youth from birth with
programs like the Columbia-Greene Child Care
Council, which helps parents and home-based
child care providers to understand the needs of
babies and toddlers. Other programs, such as
Skills for Life, help older youth prepare for
independence by teaching them basic skills to
help them get jobs and deal effectively with the
world. These programs, as well as all of the
past and present programs, have had a hugely
positive effect on their participants because of
Foundation support. People from local
governments, health care centers, and
not-for-profit agencies all attest to the
success of the Foundation's programs.
We would like to expand the number of
programs funded each year by the Foundation.
The area is home to about 350,000 people,
spread over about 5,000 miles. This large and
widespread population, combined with the
ever-increasing need, leads to many more worthy
applications for Foundation help than can be
financially handled. We are, therefore, seeking
partners to help in the mission of ensuring the
health of youth in the Hudson Valley. The youth
of the area are one of the most important keys
to the future of this region. So, action taken
now will be the deciding factor in what
direction the region takes. The Hudson Valley
Foundation for Youth Health has touched the
lives of thousands of youth. With the help of
others we have the potential to touch thousands
more. Please help us to accomplish this worthy
goal.
The volunteer Board of Directors of the
Foundation, as well as the entire extended
community of the Hudson Valley, thank you for
taking the time to read and consider this
proposal. We hope that you will decide to
become our partner in improving the future of
this region and in bringing a bright future to
thousands of youth.
